In news that’s sure to surprise fans, Glenn Danzig will be reuniting with his former band, the Misfits, for two Riot Fest appearances in September. It’s been over three decades since Danzig performed with the band. He split with them in 1983.

Things have been not only contentious but litigious between Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only, who gained rights to the Misfits’s name, and has since recorded and toured under the band’s name (via Pitchfork). There’s no word from either camp about what prompted the reunion, but they appear to have put their bad blood aside for the moment.
Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein will join Danzig and Only onstage at the two Riot Fest appearances in Denver and Chicago. Their performance is being touted as “The Original Misfits.”
Riot Fest, an annual festival that hits Denver and Chicago every year (it used to take place in Toronto as well, but there is no Toronto festival scheduled this years) will be in Denver September 2-4, and in Chicago September 16-18. The lineup generally celebrates the history of punk rock, hip-hop and alternative rock. No other artists have been announced at press time.
