Fresh off his win over BJ Penn, rising star Rory MacDonald is already eyeing his next opponent, and Matt Mitrione talks about fighting Roy Nelson this weekend.
MacDonald stepped up at UFC on FOX 5 to face former two-divison champion Penn, in the Hawaiian’s return after retiring at UFC 137. Penn make it clear that he felt he still belonged among the best in the UFC and returning to beat MacDonald would prove his point. At the end of the night, MacDonald earned the unanimous decision victory after dominating Penn for the entire fight. MacDonald wasted no time in asking for his next opponent, calling out former title challenger Carlos Condit. The two first met at UFC 115, with Condit fininshing MacDonald in the final moments of the bout. Condit has verbally agreed to the bout, which is expected to take place in early 2013.
After serving as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 16, Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin were scheduled to face eachother at this weekend’s finale. Unfortunately, Carwin sustained an injury, forcing him out of the fight. Matt Mitrione, a fellow contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 10 with Nelson, has stepped up on short notice as a replacement.
On a recent conference call, Mitrione discussed where he feels he and Nelson have improved since their time on the reality series. Hear his comments below.
