As part of the Humble Heroes Project, Coldplay‘s frontman Chris Martin reveals a moment of vulnerability and insecurity while on stage in front of a sold out crowd of thousands. His sudden loss of comfort and growing fear nearly drove him off the stage. It was his humble hero, drummer Will Champion, who restored Martin’s confidence, allowing him to finish the show.

“Normally I have this self-confidence and it just kind of left, like a bird, “admits Martin. “I wanted to leave the stage.” The singer pauses as if brought back to that moment in time. “When I feel insecure on stage, I always turn around to our drummer, Will, who looks very serious on stage but he’s really like a rock. So, I look around to him and say ‘I can’t do it. I can’t do it.’”

Martin’s admission of vulnerability was shot as a piece for the French-born Humble Heroes, or Le Projet Imagine. The non-profit organization’s mission is to call awareness to both ordinary behind-the-scenes people as well as high profile people in sports, movies, music, literature, sciences, politics and business. The creators of the project ask these highlighted people to share a moment in their life when they were vulnerable, and were thankfully given a helping hand by a “Humble Hero.”

Coldplay are currently on tour through November promoting Mylo Xyloto as well as their first comic book series under the same name.
