The Gaslight Anthem’s new album Handwritten doesn’t come out until the end of July, but you can hear them perform a few new tracks along with some fan favorites tonight at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT, when they stream a full Live on Letterman concert from the famed Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.
Frontman Brian Fallon told CBS Local this is the New Jersey band’s most personal album.
“I think this one is just more personal and less about different influences. There are no real places. There are no jukeboxes and stuff like that. I said what I had to say about all that,” he said. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m not too cool for that now, I just said what I had to say about that and there was nothing left besides real, personal life things.”
Fallon said he thinks “more fans will be able to relate to Handwritten. They’re going to feel that it’s more personal to them, not necessarily just one guy and his opinions and the flavors that he puts on lyrics.”
Watch the entire performance right here or on CBS.com.
Gaslight Anthem will hit the road with Rise Against in September and Fallon says it’s a tour he’s looking forward to.
“We’ve been friends with them for a long time because they took us out on a tour a really long time ago. They’ve been really good to us. They’re a good band, they’re good guys,” he said. “I think that the sentimentality of the bands meet up. Hot Water Music, us and Rise Against are mostly on the same page. Like minded bands have to stick together. It helps for the audience but it also helps being on tour with guys who you get along with because sometimes it gets long.”
