Jack White’s music has always had a cinematic quality whether in the minimalist, garage rock form of the White Stripes or the sultry, heady rock of the Dead Weather.
And White has been getting in touch with the intrinsic multimedia aspects of his music; it was recently reported that White will be streaming his April 27th Webster Hall performance and it will be directed by Academy Award-nominated actor Gary Oldman.
Now the Third Man Records owner and multifaceted musician is set to write his first full movie score with Walt Disney Pictures’ Lone Ranger.
New York Times is reporting that it was announced Monday at the CinemaCon theater owners convention in Las Vegas that Walt Disney Pictures has enlisted White to oversee the score for the Gore Verbinksi directed Lone Ranger.
Verbinksi has directed other box office hit Disney movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Rango.
White has never done an entire movie score before although he wrote and performed the James Bond’s Quantum of Solace theme song in 2008 with Alicia Keys and sang “Wayfaring Stranger” for Cold Mountain.
White’s musical direction is unknown, although producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’re going to have a little rock ‘n’ roll score, and I can’t wait to hear his rendition of the ‘William Tell Overture.’”
Lone Ranger will also feature Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp as Tonto and is set for release on May 31st of next year.
