The Shins In Concert

[pullquote quote=”We’ve never done anything as… high quality as this will be.” credit=”James Mercer, on playing ‘Live on Letterman'”][lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Shins[/lastfm] fourth LP, Port of Morrow is out today and pulling in strong reviews from all over the internet and even from some archaic medium known as “print.”

To help drum up some attention for the new album, the Shins are streaming a full concert tonight from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, as part of the Live on Letterman series.

In case you’re not familiar with the Live on Letterman series, here’s how it works: after the band tapes a song for the broadcast of the show to air later tonight, they studio clears out the TV audience and brings in about 200, lucky, die-hard Shins fans to fill up the theater. Than the Shins return to the stage and play a full concert, packed with hits and new material. The show is streamed live right here and on CBS.com. So basically, you can wait until 12:25 AM tonight to watch one, taped song by the Shins, or you can come back right here at 9 PM ET/ 6 PM PT to watch a full concert, streamed live. Or both.

If you’re pretty excited about the show, you’re not alone. The Shins are stoked too. According to James, they’ve never done anything on this level before with a full, live show. You can check out a full interview with James below, where he talks about what it feels like to prep for the show and he shares some of his memories from the first time he played Letterman.
