The [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Foo Fighters[/lastfm]‘ new record Wasting Light drops on April 12, the same day they are set to perform a free Live on Letterman concert webcast. Wasting Light has been described by Grohl as the band’s heaviest album yet. Despite the “heavy” description, Grohl says he’s at the same time still influenced by the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bee Gees[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]ABBA[/lastfm]!
According to the Daily Star, Grohl commented:
“I like loads of crazy-ass, dissonant, distorted rock ‘n roll. But I also love the Bee Gees and Abba, bands whose pop choruses get bigger and bigger. I love anthemic choruses, that overwhelming feeling of release that you can connect with.”
“So whenever I thought I had a big enough chorus for a song, I would use that as the pre-chorus and then I would try and write something even bigger, like they did.”
Listen to Wasting Light and see if you can find any Swedish disco influences!
The Foo Fighters perform a 90-minute Live on Letterman concert webcast on Tuesday, April 12 at 9am Eastern (6pm Pacific). Watch it live right here or on CBS.com.
