New Zealand cult comedy duo Flight of the Conchords will be looking to win its second Grammy Award at this year’s event.

The band is nominated in the Best Comedy Album category for its album I Told You I Was Freaky, which they also won back in 2007 for The Distant Future.

Last.fm Trends looks at who could step in the way of them doubling their Grammy Award wins.

Flight of the Conchords is one of the most scrobbled comedy acts on Last.fm, taking in 11,472,618 scrobbles so far. Another comedy duo, Tenacious D, with 35,992,415 scrobbles, is one of the few acts in the genre to top them.

Luckily for FOTC, Jack Black and his compatriot Kyle Gass don’t come up against them this year.

Instead, the Conchords face the likes of recent Guest List interviewee Margaret Cho (174,126 total scrobbles), the American comedian nominated for her album Cho Dependant. Featuring guest musicians such as Tegan and Sara and Andrew Bird, the album debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top Comedy Albums chart upon its release in September 2010.

One of the most recognisable names in comedy, Robin Williams (783,742 total scrobbles), will provide stiff competition for the New Zealand duo. His album Weapons Of Self Destruction is nominated, as is Stark Raving Black by Lewis Black (1,886,717 total scrobbles) and Kathy Griffin Does The Bible Belt by Kathy Griffin (153,811 total scrobbles). Griffin, by the way, was also featured in an interview on the Guest List.

With no artist really coming close to Flight Of The Conchords in terms of scrobbles, we’ll have to go with the pairing of Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement as our prediction to take the award.

Find out who wins by tuning into the Grammy Awards on February 13 on CBS.
